PAPERY’s Qi Dao wins Gold Award at Smart Design Global 2026

“Qi Dao,” PAPERY’s new Chinese chess set, has won the Gold Award at Smart Design Global 2026 (formerly known as Smart Design Awards)!  Congratulations to our Beluga and R&D team for their creativity and collaborations without which we could not have created this masterpiece that so beautifully pairs functionality with paper craftsmanship.

Qi Dao reimagines traditional Chinese chess through the elegance of paper. With paper fibres that echo natural woodgrain, a gold-lined board that lifts to reveal hidden storage trays, and meticulously crafted pieces, it delivers both exceptional playing experience and an exquisite collectible aesthetics.  A standout feature of the design is the elegant scroll-gate lid.  Conceived and developed by our R&D department, the lid glides smoothly on hidden tracks, perfectly combining functionality with sophisticated craftsmanship. It was seamlessly integrated into the final chess set packaging, contributing to the overall award-winning design.
